How to Dream Bigger in the New Year

by | Dec 18, 2023 | Personal Development

The new year is fast approaching, and although any time of year is a good time to dream big, this is the moment to harness the excitement of 2024 and run with it! So don’t let this time of the year pass you by without taking advantage of the momentum, enthusiasm, and inspiration that comes with it. Dream bigger in the new year with these tips.

Develop a growth mindset.

In order to dream bigger, we must believe that we can “do” bigger. By developing a growth mindset, you instill in yourself the belief that you have the capacity to learn, grow, and level up your skills. You’ll know that you can achieve whatever you put your mind to.

Here are quick tips on how to develop a growth mindset:

  • View your setbacks, challenges, and failures as an opportunity for growth and learning.
  • Actively reframe your “fixed mindset” thoughts to “growth mindset” thoughts. The word “yet” will help! Instead of saying, “I’m not a good communicator,” reframe that thought to,” I’m not a good communicator, YET.
  • Make learning (and more importantly, doing) a priority.
  • Have grace for yourself because stretching yourself outside of your comfort zone isn’t easy … but you’ve got this!

Focus on impact.

Dream bigger this year by focusing outward. We were meant to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Fulfill that longing by casting a vision that includes legacy, impact, and significance. When you focus on the impact that you have the potential to make, your dreams will no longer be about you. And that’s the way it should be.

And *hint, hint* the more people you help, the more successful you will inherently be. Be “others focused” and watch how everything else falls into place.

Consume positivity.

We can’t possibly dream bigger if our environment is filled with negativity. And on the flip side of that coin, focusing on positivity will build your belief in yourself and your ability to follow through. What are ways to focus on consuming positivity? Here are a few ideas:

  • Limit your social media use and be sure to only follow inspiring or educational accounts.
  • Read books like Dream Doer by Paul Tsika, Win the Day by Mark Batterson, or Start with Why by Simon Sinek™ to boost your confidence and motivation.
  • Ask a friend or two to join an accountability group with you so that you can all encourage one another to reach your goals!
  • Continue to connect with and surround yourself with other like-minded dreams and doers.

Journal your dreams and goals.

Have you ever tried journaling about your future? Here’s an activity that will help you to envision what achieving your dreams will look like. Take a few minutes to write down what a day in your life looks like 5 years from now. Write down every detail from waking up in the morning to going to sleep at night. Include details like where you are, who you’re with, what you’re doing, and so on.

Envisioning big dreams gets you one step closer to achieving them!

Cast your vision.

Share your vision with the world! Don’t keep it to yourself because you never know who you’ll inspire to dream big with you. The more dreamers and doers we have in the world, the more impact and change we will create. Dream bigger and cast your vision heading into the new year.

Dream bigger and go for it!

Now it’s time to move into motion. Break down your ambitions, dreams, and visions into goals, and turn those goals into action steps that you’ll take day by day. Before you know it, your big dreams will come true!
